Mexico, Dec. 16 (Notimex) .- The Communications and Transportation Ministry (SCT, for its acronym in Spanish) declared the Palenque Airport in Chiapas international civil airfield for the entry and departure from the country of Mexican and foreign aircrafts.

In the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF, for its acronym in Spanish), the agency said that the terminal will provide public and private air services, national and international, regular and non-regular.

In an agreement published today in the DOF, which will come into force tomorrow, it points out that the airport is located near the archaeological zone of Palenque, Chiapas, so it constitutes an important means of communication between the state itself and the entities of Yucatan , Campeche and Quintana Roo.

Besides that from its operation the tourist influx of the main archaeological centers of the denominated Riviera Maya was invigorated, the generation of jobs was encouraged; commercial and tourist operations in the area increased, and the cost / time of airport-tourist zone transfers was reduced.

This, it said, originated a sustainable and efficient means of transport and it propitiated the use of new technologies for the promotion and commercialization of the destination.

The SCT explained that the immigration, customs, phyto-zoo-sanitary, sanitary and public safety authorities, within the scope of their respective competencies will be in charge of carrying out the inspection and supervision of the dispatch.

It highlighted that this dependency, through the General Direction of Civil Aviation, will notify this declaration to the International Civil Aviation Organization, based in Montreal, Canada, and will proceed to install the corresponding identification signs.

This agreement repeals the agreement published on June 2, 1997 in the DOF.
